3-10" Buckaroo Cobble
Description
3″–10″ Buckaroo is a great choice for driveways, large-scale drainage, and bold accent applications because it stays firmly in place, resists shifting even in high-traffic or high-flow areas, and creates a rugged, substantial look. Its wide size range makes it especially popular for erosion control, retaining wall backfill, and dry creek beds where large-scale visual impact is desired. It's also a striking choice for xeriscaping and statement borders where you want the rock itself to be a focal point. With its varied blend of gray, cream-tan, and rust-red tones, this stone brings a rugged, weathered character to any landscape. Whether used as a decorative accent, a driveway base, or a drainage solution, 3″–10″ Buckaroo delivers dramatic scale and lasting performance in virtually any application.

Installation Depth Guide — Cubic Yard Coverage for 3″–10″ Buckaroo
| Depth | Coverage per Cubic Yard | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 5″ | ~70 sq ft | Too shallow |
| 6″ | ~60 sq ft | Not recommended |
| 7″ | ~50 sq ft | Minimum depth |
| 8″ | ~45 sq ft | Recommended |
| 9″ | ~40 sq ft | Ideal depth |
| 10″ | ~35 sq ft | Usually unnecessary |
| 11″ | ~30 sq ft | Excessive |
Note: Because individual stones can measure up to 10″, a typical installation depth is 8-9 inches for this rock — enough to fully bed the largest pieces. Installing shallower than 7 inches will leave larger stones sitting loosely on top of the base rather than nested in, which can cause shifting and an uneven surface. Some pieces may fall outside the stated range as part of the natural mix. When in doubt, test a small section first.
Product details, what you should know
- Sizing: Wide mixed range from 3" to 10", combining mid-sized pieces with large statement stones in every load. Some pieces may fall outside this range as part of the natural mix.
- Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a light presence of fines (typically less than 10%). Fines from production, handling, and transport are normal.
- Appearance: Fractured stone featuring a varied blend of gray, cream-tan, and rust-red, with rust staining appearing heavily on some of the darker charcoal pieces. Colors deepen and become more vibrant when wet. Color may vary slightly between loads.
- History: Material has remained generally consistent in size and color over time. The gray, cream-tan, and rust-red blend is typical of this stone, with minor variation between loads as expected with any quarried material. Colors tend to appear more muted when dry and deepen noticeably when wet.
- Also known as: Commonly referred to as large rip rap or crushed accent stone.
Buckaroo is a large-format crushed option with real variety — the mix of gray, cream-tan, and rust-red pieces creates a rugged, natural look well suited for erosion control, retaining wall backfill, and dry creek beds where visual texture and scale both matter. Worth noting — the rust staining on the darker stones becomes more pronounced after rain, adding warmth and contrast to an already varied palette.
