2-8" Sahara Cobble
Description
2-8″ Sahara Cobble is a great choice for driveways, large-scale drainage, and bold accent applications because it stays firmly in place, resists shifting even in high-traffic or high-flow areas, and creates a rugged, substantial look. Its wide size range makes it especially popular for erosion control, retaining wall backfill, and dry creek beds where large-scale visual impact is desired. It's also a striking choice for xeriscaping and statement borders where you want the rock itself to be a focal point. With its warm blend of tan and gold-beige tones, accented by soft blush-pink and darker charcoal-brown pieces, this stone brings a bold, desert-inspired character to any landscape. Whether used as a decorative accent, a driveway base, or a drainage solution, 2-8″ Sahara Cobble delivers dramatic scale and lasting performance in virtually any application.

Installation Depth Guide — Cubic Yard Coverage for 2-8″ Sahara Cobble
| Depth | Coverage per Cubic Yard | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 4″ | ~90 sq ft | Too shallow |
| 5″ | ~75 sq ft | Not recommended |
| 6″ | ~65 sq ft | Minimum depth |
| 7″ | ~58 sq ft | Recommended |
| 8″ | ~50 sq ft | Ideal depth |
| 9″ | ~45 sq ft | Usually unnecessary |
| 10″ | ~40 sq ft | Excessive |
Note: Because individual stones can measure up to 8″, a typical installation depth is 7-8 inches for this rock — enough to fully bed the largest pieces. Installing shallower than 6 inches will leave larger stones sitting loosely on top of the base rather than nested in, which can cause shifting and an uneven surface. Some pieces may fall outside the stated range as part of the natural mix. When in doubt, test a small section first.
Product details, what you should know
- Sizing: Wide mixed range from 2" to 8", combining mid-sized pieces with large statement stones in every load. Some pieces may fall outside this range as part of the natural mix.
- Cleanliness: Unwashed material with a light presence of fines (typically less than 10%). Fines from production, handling, and transport are normal.
- Appearance: Fractured stone featuring a warm blend of tan and gold-beige, with soft blush-pink pieces and darker charcoal-brown speckled stones mixed throughout. Colors deepen and become more vibrant when wet. Color may vary slightly between loads.
- History: Material has remained generally consistent in size and color over time. The tan and gold-beige blend with blush-pink and charcoal-brown accents is typical of this stone, with minor variation between loads as expected with any quarried material. Colors tend to appear more muted when dry and deepen noticeably when wet.
- Also known as: Commonly referred to as large rip rap, boulder-class gravel, or crushed accent stone.
Sahara Cobble is our largest-format crushed option — its 2-8″ size gives it serious visual weight and makes it especially well suited for erosion control, retaining wall backfill, and large-scale drainage where stability under heavy flow is critical. Worth noting — because pieces at the top of the range approach true boulder size, this material pairs well with smaller accent gravels for layered, naturalistic landscape design. The blush-pink and charcoal tones both deepen after rain, adding richness to an already bold, large-scale stone.
